 Clueless in America

Nadya Suleman was on Dr. Phil’s show yesterday morning answering some hard questions.  From what I saw and heard, her body language didn’t jive with what came out of her mouth.

Angels in Waiting accompanied Nadya to the show. They were there to explain how and what their company was doing to help Nadya’s children. Angels in waiting explained that all monies received to their organization are from donations. These donations will be overseen by a retired Judge.

I was glad to hear that. These children need all the help they can get. Yet, I still don’t want to see or hear of Nadya breaking out in new outfits or a new hairdo or manicured nails. She’s given up those luxuries when she had those babies.

My first rankle with Nadya is her wish to go to school.

Going to school is a fine idea but, Nadya gave up that luxury too, when she had her babies.

I’m looking at this from a fellow single mother’s point of view. I had a good job but money was tight and that was with just one child.

I wanted to go to school too but, I set my priorities straight.  My first and utmost priority was being a mother.  I knew I had to work, w-o-r-k work!  Not go to school. Going to school didn’t pay the rent, or the gas, or the electricity. My son and I refused to eat text books for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

So, I put my dreams and wishes on the back burner and off to the work force I went. I, like many other single Moms, didn’t rely on food stamps or welfare. We worked jobs outside of home, some worked two or three jobs, then came home to work some more.

Nadya on the other hand has manicured nails, eats well, has cute clothes and doesn’t work. Working people are doing her sacrifice.

She has no clue what the word “sacrifice” means. Most single Moms know and understand what it is to sacrifice. I for one, wore undies with holes in them and clothes so old they new Abraham Lincoln, for years. I waited until my son was grown before I went back to college.

My second  rankle is; how in the world did she not know from where food stamps or welfare came?

This just blew my mind!  Off stage Nadya said “I didn’t know where welfare or food stamps came from”

Oh Please! From what planet did she come!

Here in Ohio, you can only receive a welfare check for three years. If you make too much money they’ll hit your food stamps too. The welfare system is designed to keep you poor and to make a person so sick of the system you’ll get off the rolls and become self-sufficient.

The more she talked the more I thought that this girl’s lights are on but, she in no way is home. As one audience member pointed out, Nadya didn’t seem to have true heart-felt thankfulness or remorse.

Sure, she said thank you to Angels In Waiting and yes, she said she felt guilty for being a burden on the tax payers.

But, her body language told me: “Yea, I did it now, get over it”.
