Serena Williams’ On Court Oopsy!

Watching the U.S. Open [somewhat, I run the channels like men do] I happened to flip to the moment when Serena Williams had her tirade.

If you were watching the cameras showed when Williams supposedly had a “foot fault.”

Unless my eyes were deceiving me I didn’t see a foot fault.  Therefore, Serena had every right to protest. The match was frustrating for Williams, yes, she was out-played by Kim Clijsters. But, evidently, she was also having a violating night [pardon the pun].

Williams is a professional. For her to have one code violation is highly unusual, but to have two that will cost her another title is very unlikely.

What did irritate me was that the line judge supposedly told her supervisor that Williams threatened to kill her.

What Williams first said I didn’t hear, I flipped to the channel during her last out-burst however, it is reported that she said –

“I swear to God I’m … going to take this … ball and shove it down your … throat, you hear that? I swear to God,”

” Then the line
judge said something to the chair umpire, and Williams responded, “I didn’t say
I would kill you. Are you serious? I didn’t say that.” The line judge replied
by shaking her head and saying, “Yes.”

This is not a threat to someone’s life. People say things in the heat of the moment all the time. This doesn’t mean they’ll act on it.

What I saw was Williams walking over to listen to what the line judge was saying to her supervisor.

What I heard, with my own sonic ears, was Williams saying to the line judge’s supervisor and everyone listening–

“Kill you! I didn’t say that — are you serious!

Williams  said about the melt-down:

“I said something that I guess they gave me a point penalty.
Unfortunately it was on match point,” Williams said after the match. “I
didn’t threaten. I was in the moment and everyone’s fighting for every
point.”

Williams is a champion who had a bad night. There isn’t a champion who hasn’t.

She’ll shake it off and get over this  experience — that’s what a champion does.
